Consuming news is an avoidance strategy.
99% of us don’t need news. It’s not like a leftist is going to hear about Trump’s unprecedented COVID vaccine initiative that is predicted to save millions of lives and say “Ohh, well in that case I’m changing my mind about Trump”. Likewise a hardcore Republican isn’t going to hear about Kamal Harris’ strong support of the police and come to the conclusion that she should lead our country.
At the end of the day we’re consuming news as entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with entertainment, but instead of listening to the same news story in the same boring format, why not lean into the fact that we’re consuming this information for fun and make that experience as enjoyable as possible?
At MBS, we’ll be as entertaining as possible.
Just because our tone is casual doesn’t mean our content isn’t legitimate. We’ll pit our data and evidence based journalism against any publication any day.
We’re a legitimate news organization backed by data scientists, economic researchers, Medical Doctors, and investigative journalists. The topics we cover will also be much more relevant than the daily 16 hour reminder that “COVID cases are up”. A monkey could’ve told you that, and we’re not into animal labor. Our goal isn’t to sound smarter-than-thou with our big words – it’s to inform and entertain.
Then there’s the problem of people only consuming news from sources that they already agree with. Translation: nobody changes their mind and we become even more divided and angry.
So we’re going to make sure that no matter what your beliefs are, we’ll have content that you absolutely disagree with. We hope you read it anyway, tell us why we’re wrong, and come back for more. Maybe even be open to changing your mind by 1%.
Finally we’ll only give you 1 article a day. There is no way you need to be informed about more than 365 topics in any year. You’re probably some middle manager or college student, not the President.
Our long term goal is to lessen everyone’s news consumption to 1 article a day that that they can potentially take action towards, instead of a mindless endless scroll of things you already know about. That way you can spend more time with friends and family, or on any of your passions – not blankly staring at the internet getting more angry.
Hope you join us in the movement to waste less time on the internet.
